Lindsay's Take on the Alaskan Highway

Im back I know you missed me! We did indeed decide to drive straight through there was no real attractions on this route so we figured we wouldn’t miss much and hoped we be lucky in wildlife sightings seeing as they are usually the most active at dawn and dusk. And as B said we saw Our fair share. The drive was rather rough for me because I didn’t take a nap before my nighttime turn because duh I could miss animals! I did pretty well keeping myself up and it helped that it didn’t get “dark” until midnight and I saw the moon go down and knew that meant the sun was on its way. 3:30am it started getting lighter. CRAZY. Around six I started dozing off and pulled over on one of the little pull outs and we slept for a while and then resumed the trek. Getting the photographic evidence of the moose and owl we couldn’t get in Wyoming. And wild horses not expected and so phenomenal! I saw this sign with what looked like a deer on it but no antlers. I was confused thinking to myself does that mean wild horses? So I was scanning the dawn light and Sally come lately there two were. How awesome I didn’t know they had wild horses up here. Speaking of signs for wildlife…hilarious. Some look just like ours and others look like aboriginal art or like a kid drew it or a huge cut out of whatever animals head.

And as you can see why I have a hard time not having my eyes glued to the landscape because I do miss things. I did spot the three grizzlies though the mom and her two yearlings. No they were not the small cute cuddly rambunctious rascal cubs we was at Bear Country wildlife park. But still awesome non the less I stayed in the car this time. If you don’t know the rule of never get between a mother bear and her cub you do now and it’s a bad idea. So I figured I’m not getting anywhere near them. However as you’re watching these big powerful animals that everyone is scared of eating dandelions and grass on the side of the road unphased by people in the slightest you only have to wonder why we are so scared of them. I did approach the buffalo though and then he started walking towards me and looking right at me. Part of me was like just stay and see if he comes up to you and just sniffs and walks away but the kid in me heard my mom yelling at me to get back in the car and back up slowly. So I did. Not that I have a death wish or think I’m infalable but I don’t think being mauled by a buffalo is anywhere in my life plan and definitely not on this trip. I think I would have been fine, not to toot my own horn but animals and I just get each other. I’m like an animal whisperer. I may have peed my pants if I stayed but it would have been worth it. P.s. I saw a porcupine and he put his quills up. Porcupine …check. What else can we see?
